Check Case Status on the USCIS Website
To ascertain the duration for your case to be processed, follow these steps:
- After submitting your case through our firm to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), you will receive a receipt in a few weeks.
- Once you receive the receipt, you can monitor the status of your case with the USCIS.
Here are the instructions on how to check your case status online:
- Visit the USCIS website
- You will need to input the receipt number, located on the top left side of the notice, into the designated box on the website.
- After entering the receipt number, you can view the status of your case.
- Please note that there are exceptions. For U, T, and VAWA cases that are highly confidential, the status will not be available online. You will need to call USCIS at 1 (800) 375-5283 to inquire about your case status.
Check Case Processing Time on the USCIS Website
If you’re wondering about the typical processing time for USCIS to adjudicate your case type, you can find this on the USCIS website. Visit the processing times page and enter the following information to determine the usual processing time for your case:
- Form: This number can be found at the top of the receipt notice.
- Form Category: The receipt notice usually contains information indicating the category of the case.
- Filed Office: Each case is assigned to be adjudicated under certain internal rules and office jurisdictions. You can determine which service center your case is located at by looking at the bottom left of your receipt notice.
Once you select the correct item for each category, you will be able to see the standard processing time for your case. This is the time it would take for 80% of cases to be decided by the USCIS. Please note that this is the average processing time for 80% of cases. Therefore, there may be cases that are resolved earlier or later. If you hear that a friend or family member had their case approved in less time, it does not mean the same will happen for the remaining 80% of cases.
The extended timelines observed in the adjudication of cases predominantly stem from the significant backlog currently being experienced by the USCIS. It is important to recognize that USCIS bears the exclusive authority for the adjudication of your case. Following the submission of your case and the acknowledgment thereof via a receipt, the responsibility for its review and resolution falls solely under the purview of USCIS. As such, any attempts to solicit our firm to accelerate the adjudication process will unfortunately be futile. We understand and share your concerns regarding the progress of your case. However, if your case is still being processed within the established USCIS timelines, it is beyond our capacity to intervene or inquire on your behalf, except in situations classified as life-threatening emergencies. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we navigate these procedural constraints.
